Lois Buchanan-Elder and Edward D. Whipkey, both of Parkersburg, along with their families, announce their engagement.
The bride-to-be is the daughter of Forrest "Buck" Elder of Little Hocking, and Eleanor "Jean" Lawrence of Parkersburg. She is the granddaughter of the late Harry and late Mary Elder of Cairo, the late Walter Barr of Augusta, Ga., and the late Edna Leasure-Radekin of Ocala, Fla. She is a 1981 graduate of Parkersburg South High School, a 1997 graduate of Clarksburg Beauty Academy and a 2004 graduate of West Virginia University of Parkersburg.
She has worked many years with Wendcorp of Belpre, and is now employed with J.C. Penney Styling Salon at the Grand Central Mall. She is also a member of Eastern Star Chapter 14 and EL NASIG 162, Daughters of the Nile, Parkersburg.

The prospective bridegroom is the son of France Whipkey of Princeton, W.Va., and Lorretta Henthorn-Korte. He is the grandson of late Albert and late Myrtle Whipkey, and late Ernest and late Massie Henthorn of Beverly. He is a 1986 graduate of Caldwell High School and Zanesville Career Center, where he studied agricultural management. He is a member of The Grand Lodge of F.&A.M. of Ohio, Coolville Lodge. He is employed as the store manager of Foodland in the Gihon Village Shopping Center.
An open wedding is planned for 3:30 p.m. Christmas Day at North Bend State Park.
The couple will be residing at the groom's home in Parkersburg.
