Bad moves for PHS football

December 9, 2012
Parkersburg News and Sentinel

I was hoping some other avid Big Red football fan would write a letter about how dismal our football program has become. Our reserved ticket sales are way down and attendance in general is way off too. It's not because of a lack of talent either. This year we had a good QB with an arm, two good running backs, hand full of good receivers, but couldn't move the ball.

You win championships with blocking and tackling of which the Big Reds do neither. We scored only 229 points while giving up 358. If I got beat 44-0 on my own field, I would quit myself. Reeves said last year we were close to turning the corner, corner to what?

Maybe he ought to play some players that practiced just as hard all year and never were given a chance to play. You would think by mid-season you would be getting better, not the case. Makes you wonder what they do all week at practice, cause we are out-coached every game. Losing to a South Charleston team that wasn't very good, was embarrassing.

What PHS needs is coaches that have the mentality of a drill instructor, instead of a baker. Just because you can play the game, doesn't mean you can coach it. That's what you get when you don't go for the best person for the job and hire the buddy system. Let's hope smash-mouth football returns soon, cause teams can't wait to play us the way things are now.
