Eldred R. "Doc" Morris, 84, of Parkersburg, W.Va., departed this life on Nov. 30, 2012, at Camden Clark Medical Center, Memorial Campus.
Eldred was born July 13, 1928, in Harrisville, W.Va., a son of the late Edgar R. and Esta (Layfield) Morris.
He was a retired school teacher having served as the German teacher for 19 years at PennCrest High School in Philadelphia, Pa. After retiring from teaching, he went to work at the Chalfonte Hotel in Cape May, N.J., before returning to the Parkersburg area where he became a substitute teacher for the various schools. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, where he served as a medic and achieved the rank of Corporal. He also attended the 7th Street United Methodist Church, and was a longtime member of Elks 198 of Parkersburg.
He is survived by his nephew, Gail Butler, and great-niece, Christy Butler, both of Parkersburg; step-children, Katja Stokley of Longmont, Colo., Tina Ragozzino of San Francisco, Calif., Annette Stone of Dillon, Colo., and Rick Parsons of Denver, Colo.; six grandchildren; two great-great-nephews; and his special cats, Lee, Whitey and Lucy, who he loved dearly.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Elisabeth Parsons in 1996; brother, Ronald Morris; and sister, Louise Morris.
A memorial service in Eldred's memory will be 2 p.m. Dec. 8 at Leavitt Funeral Home Family Center, with a gathering of friends immediately following the services.
