Beverly-Center PTO helped students honor their grandparents with an afternoon at the movies on Nov. 16. More than 150 grandparents shared the afternoon with their grandchildren. Grandparents were photographed with their grandchildren, then all students entered the gym for the movie, Dr. Seuss' "The Lorax".
The event was made possible through the efforts of several parents, students and community groups. Mr. Bidwell altered his morning schedule to allow the gym to become a theater for the afternoon. Mr. Hennes' sixth-grade students set up the screen and movie in the gym. Fort Frye Athletic Boosters donated use of their popcorn machine to help with snacks. Citizens Bank, Beverly-Center's partner in education, furnished the popcorn, popcorn bags and a popcorn machine. PTO parents volunteering their time to help prepare for the event included Carly Spindler, Missy Huck, Amanda Duskey, Amanda Kasun, Gretchen Slaughter, Mollie Zimmer, Marci Duskey, Marinda Tennant and Kim Brothers.

HOW CHILDREN PERCEIVE THEIR GRANDPARENTS
This nugget came to me via email from a friend several months ago. The author isn't identified, but I ran across it again and wondered if any of these conversations took place during grandparents' afternoon at Beverly-Center
She was in the bathroom putting on her makeup under the watchful eyes of her young granddaughter, as she'd done many times before. After she applied her lipstick and started to leave the little one said. "But Grandma, you forgot to kiss the toilet paper good-bye!" I will probably never put on lipstick again without thinking about kissing the toilet paper good bye.
My young grandson called the other day to wish me Happy Birthday. He asked me how old I was, and I told him "62." My grandson was quiet for a moment, and then he asked, "Did you start at 1?"
I didn't know if my granddaughter had learned her colors yet, so I decided to test her. I would point out something and ask what color it was. She would tell me and was always correct. It was fun for me, so I continued. At last, she headed for the door, saying "Grandma, I think you should try to figure out some of these colors yourself!"
A 6-year-old was asked where his grandma lived. "Oh," he said, "she lives at the airport, and when we want her, we just go get her. Then, when we're done having her visit, we take her back to the airport."

DECEMBER STORY TIME
The Beverly Public Library is offering its preschool "Read to Me" story time Dec. 5 from 11 a.m.- noon. Preschool children ages 2-5 are invited to come listen to stories about the Platypus, have a small snack, and stay to make a Paper Bag Platypus. All children must be accompanied by an adult that will remain with them during the story time. For more information about the story time, contact the library at 984-4060.
