PARKERSBURG - A South Charleston-based senior health care firm is in the process of acquiring the Eagle Pointe care facility in Parkersburg.
The West Virginia Health Care Authority issued a certificate of need on Monday to Parkersburg Acquisition LLC and Parkview Land LLC for the acquisition of Eagle Pointe for a proposed $10.5 million. The 164-bed facility is located off Broad Street.
The two LLCs requested the certificate in September. A letter of intent was received by the authority one day after both the Parkersburg Acquisition LLC and Parkview Land LLC were registered with the West Virginia Secretary of State.

Eagle Pointe in Parkersburg is being acquired by a health care firm from South Charleston for $10.5 million.
The LLCs are managed by Lawrence Pack, a Charleston CPA, with Stonerise Healthcare in South Charleston. Attempts to contact Pack were unsuccessful.
Eagle Pointe is owned by American Senior Communities, which has corporate headquarters in Indianapolis. American Senior Communities operates a large number of facilities almost exclusively in Indiana. Eagle Pointe is its only West Virginia entity.
The proposed acquisition of Eagle Pointe is the second in as many years. In 2010, Genesis HealthCare attempted to acquire Eagle Pointe for $15 million.

Ruby Block, director of marketing and admissions for Eagle Pointe, said the facility had no comment at this time regarding the sale.
Stonerise Healthcare announced the coming addition of Eagle Pointe on its website in October.
"Stonerise Healthcare is pleased to announce the coming addition of Eagle Pointe nursing and rehabilitation center to its group of West Virginia-based care facilities. We expect Eagle Pointe to officially become part of the Stonerise family by early 2013," the release stated.
The company has senior care facilities in Pleasants, Monroe and Monongalia counties.
The company's release stated it recently finished major renovations at Carehaven in Pleasants County.
