MARIETTA - A popular yuletide tradition is under way at Peoples Bank.

The windows at the bank in the 200 block of Putnam Street are again decorated with animated displays.

"We love sharing the holiday spirit with the community and receive countless positive comments. We often see grandparents marveling at the holiday displays alongside their children and grandchildren," said Rick Stafford, vice president of sales and marketing at Peoples Bank. "It's a fun activity... something that everyone enjoys and remembers as a holiday tradition."

Peoples Bank on Putnam Street in Marietta has a number of animated dioramas depicting a Victorian-era Christmas.

For the first time this year, the entire window scape will be a continual scene from window-to-window with all scenes taking place in outdoor winter settings. Frosted branches frame the windows to create a large oval, framing the scene.

The theme, "A Dickens Christmas," is a mix of the Victorian era with a dash of holiday cheer. The display features Victorian-era characters, both stationary and animated, in a diorama of holiday adventures.

Scenes include a couple watching an ice skater; a traditional shopping scene with Dickens' style characters walking on a cobblestone path holding packages; a Dickens' style baker selling pastries; a chestnut vendor next to Victorian street lamps; an animated character selling Christmas trees; and Dickens' style carolers complete with instruments and caroling books.

Crown Event Rentals and Crown Florals of Parkersburg creates the dreamy window displays annually for Peoples Bank. The collection of characters once belonged to Macy's and graced the department store's holiday windows in New York City during the 1950s and '60s.

The holiday windows are lit from 8 a.m. to 11 p.m. daily through Jan. 3. Additional scenes are on display in Peoples Bank lobby during regular banking hours.
