The new FedEx Freight service center at the Airport Industrial Park near Parkersburg will be a local pick-up and delivery facility for FedEx Freight Priority and FedEx Freight Economy shipments. More than 20 employees will work there.
"FedEx is very excited about our facility in Parkersburg," Reed said. "This is another step in our long-term strategy to provide additional capacity in the greater Parkersburg market and serve our customers with enhanced flexibility and solutions for their business needs."
Reed is a 1976 graduate of Parkersburg Catholic High School.
More than 20 people work at the new site. Staffing decisions are based on their customers' demand for services.
The service center is an expansion of the FedEx Freight presence in Parkersburg, increasing capacity to 23 dock doors from 16 at the previous site. Situated on 15.4 acres, the facility became fully operational this summer.
The new location is larger and will allow the company to better serve their customers now and in the future, company officials said. The new facility could eventually be enlarged to as many as 44 dock doors. Approximately 45 pieces of equipment are located at the facility.
FedEx Freight is a provider of LTL services, which consolidates freight shipments from multiple customers into trailer loads that are then routed through the company's delivery network to final destinations.
The new Parkersburg facility is part of a network of more than 350 FedEx Freight service centers across the country. The center serves as a local pick-up and delivery facility for shipments to provide needed capacity and growth by handling additional shipments from surrounding service centers.
