MARIETTA - A Marietta man initially indicted for an April burglary managed to narrowly avoid jail time Thursday.
Timothy Newbrough, 28, of 848 Greene St. Apt. 2, was sentenced to a drug rehabilitation facility by Washington County Common Pleas Court Judge Susan Boyer.
Newbrough will enter the SEPTA Correctional Facility in Nelsonville when a bed becomes available.
If Newbrough does not successfully complete the SEPTA program, Boyer has the option to sentence him to prison.
Newbrough was indicted in July on a second-degree felony count of burglary. On April 9, he allegedly broke into his mother's home and stole prescription medication.
On Oct. 2, Newbrough pleaded to a lesser charge, a fourth-degree felony count of trespassing in a habitation when a person is present or likely to be present.
In addition to drug counseling, Newbrough was sentenced to five years of community control sanctions.
