COLUMBUS, Ohio - Tayler Hill led three Buckeyes in double-figures with 21 points and five assists as No. 20/21 Ohio State defeated Cincinnati, 87-49, Wednesday in the home opener at Value City Arena. The win moves the Buckeyes to 1-1 on the young season while UC drops to 1-1 as well.
Amber Stokes and Raven Ferguson both chipped in with 16 apiece while Ashley Adams turned in a solid all-around performance with seven points, seven assists, 10 rebounds and three blocks in 27 minutes.
The Buckeyes fired out of the gates and led 42-21 at the half on the strength of 77.3 percent shooting from the floor. Mixing up their lineups throughout the game, Ohio State looked crisp on both ends of the floor, holding UC to 26.7 percent from the field in the first 20 minutes. Leading 30-17 with 5:34 left in the half, Ohio State went on a 12-4 run to close out the half.
The second half was more of the same as Ohio State continued its hot shooting from the field while the Bearcats never cut the lead to fewer than 21 points.
Dayeesha Hollins, a Michigan transfer, led Cincinnati with 15 points - the only Bearcat in double-figures.
Ohio State's Darryce Moore scored seven points for the Buckeyes, Maleeka Kynard hit two three's off the bench for six points and Martina Ellerbe chipped in with five. All but two players who saw action scored.
