PARKERSBURG - A man threatening to shoot himself was arrested Wednesday and charged with public intoxication and brandishing a weapon, the Parkersburg Police Department said.
Officer J.D. Pinkerton was dispatched to 100 Lakeview Center for a call about an intoxicated man, police spokesman Sgt. Greg Collins said.
Pinkerton saw a man matching the description standing next to a car in the parking lot. While speaking to Anthony Ryan Peters, 32, 173 Killdeer Lane, Washington, W.Va., Pinkerton asked him to remove his hands from his pocket after becoming suspicious that something was being concealed there, Collins said.
Peters then removed a silver handgun, immediately pointing it at his own head, Collins said. Pinkerton took cover and ordered Peters to drop the weapon, Collins said.
He eventually complied and dropped the gun to the ground, Collins said. After Peters was secured without further incident, Pinkerton recovered a loaded 45-caliber handgun.
Another loaded magazine was found on Peters when searched, Collins said.
Peters was arraigned in Wood County Magistrate Court where he failed to post a $2,100 bond. He remains in custody at the North Central Regional Jail.
