PARKERSBURG - West Virginia University at Parkersburg's Office for Global Initiatives will hold events Nov. 12 and Nov. 14 as part of International Education Week.

International Education Week is an annual event designed to celebrate and bring attention to international education and exchange programs. The celebration is sponsored by the United States Department of Education and U.S. State Department.

The college's Office for Global Initiatives will host three events:

* "Comparing Educational Systems in the U.S. and Abroad: Panel 1," will be held at 11 a.m. Nov. 12 in the college theater. The first panel, moderated by Emmanual Ogwude, will feature WVU-P students who are familiar with educational systems in areas such as Africa, Asia, the Middle East and South America. The panelists will share observations of studying in the U.S. and abroad.

* "Study Abroad Opportunities: Experience the World," will be held at 7 p.m. Nov. 12 in the college theater. The program, led by assistant professors Jeff Byrd and Aaron Crites, will provide updated information about study abroad opportunities, including the upcoming 2013 excursion to Germany and the Alps and a state-sponsored trip to Quebec.

* "Comparing Educational Systems in the U.S. and Abroad: Panel 2," will be held at 11 a.m. Nov. 14 in rooms 2209 and 2211. The panel will feature WVU-P faculty members who will compare education in the U.S. and abroad. In particular, panelists will consider the globalizing aspects of education, commenting on those countries with which they are especially familiar: Paul Cheng on Taiwan, Rosa Guedes on Brazil, Uta Hempel on Germany, Sy Sarkarat on Azerbaijan, Vijay Shah on India and Mikhail Styrt on Russia and the Ukraine.

For more information on the events, contact Aaron Crites, coordinator of the Office for Global Initiatives, at aaron.crites@mail.wvu.edu or at 1-304-424-8347.
