Ruth Pierce Riddle, 96, of Auburn, W.Va., departed this life on Tuesday, Oct. 23, 2012, at her residence, following an extended illness.
Ruth was born Feb. 3, 1916, in Ritchie County (Holbrook Community), a daughter of the late Baxter M. and Gracie M. (Britton) Pierce. She spent her life as a loving homemaker for her family. She used her excellent skills in baking, quilting, sewing, and listening to earn the label as "Wonder Woman" for her family. She also was a very social lady in her community and was a dear wife and friend to her late husband. She was a 68 year member of the Auburn United Methodist Church where she served as the secretary/treasurer and was also a member of the Auburn Women's Society. She is survived by her children, Bobby Riddle (Esther), Mt. Clare, W.Va.; Daniel Riddle (Cindy), Spelter, W.Va., and Dortha Anderson (Jim), Auburn, W.Va.; brother, Dean Patrick Pierce, Harrisville, W.Va.; grandchildren, Beverly Lopreste (Jim); Terry Skinner (Rick); Larry Gregg (Deb); Cheryl Smith; Benji Riddle, and Bill Riddle (Jessica), along with 6 great grandchildren and 5 great great grandchildren. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Shirley S. Riddle, on March 3, 1993; daughter, Sharon Riddle; 5 brothers, 3 sisters and 2 grandchildren, Timothy Riddle and Jill (Riddle) Miles.
Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Friday, Oct. 25, 2012, at the McCullough-Rogers Funeral Home, Pennsboro, with the Rev. Ed Balis officiating. Burial will follow in the Mt. Union Cemetery near Summers, W.Va. Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. today at the funeral home.
