WATERFORD - A Waterford man was killed Friday after his tractor overturned and rolled on top of him.

Walter A. Rauch, 71, of 3595 Turkey Hen Road, was pronounced dead at the scene.

According to Washington County Sheriff Larry Mincks, Rauch was harvesting corn on his farm when the tractor and combine rolled over, pinning him underneath. Another man had been working with Rauch that morning, but had left the property for lunch.

"They had taken a break for lunch and when the younger gentleman came back, Mr. Rauch and the tractor were gone, but he could not hear the tractor running in the field," said Mincks.

When the other man found Rauch, both the tractor and the combine were overturned with Rauch pinned underneath. The first responders were not immediately able to move the overturned equipment, but an EMT crawled under the wreck and found that Rauch had no pulse, said Mincks.

The accident likely occurred less than a half hour prior to being discovered.

No foul play is suspected but the sheriff's office will conduct a full investigation, as is policy, said Mincks.
