Carl D. Griffith, 84, of Parkersburg, passed away Oct. 11, 2012, at Louis A. Johnson VA Medical Center in Clarksburg, W.Va.
He was born in Cairo, the son of the late Raymond and Bertha Simmons Griffith. He was raised in Cairo, W.Va., and was a United States Army veteran of the Korean Conflict, and was the recipient of the Purple Heart. He had owned and operated Carl Giffith Trash Service for 37 years. He was a lifetime member of the Parkersburg V.F.W. Post 1212 and the Parkersburg D.A.V. He was an avid outdoorsman and loved fishing and camping.
He is survived by his daughter, Beverly "Becky" Templeton and husband William of Parkersburg; one son, Carl D. Griffith Jr. of Vienna; one grandson, Aaron Mullins; many nieces and nephews; and his dog, Bessie. He was preceded in death by one grandson, David Watkins Jr.; five sisters; and two brothers.
Funeral services will be 1 p.m. today at the Leavitt Funeral Home in Parkersburg, with Rev. Norman Butler officiating. Burial will be in the Mt. Pisgah Cemetery near Pullman, W.Va. Visitation will be from 11 a.m. until service time at 1 p.m. today.
