Theft of signs is troubling

October 13, 2012
Parkersburg News and Sentinel

MOV In the Pink is a nonprofit organization and we had our annual Breast Cancer Event Sept. 29 in Parkersburg. We had yard signs and banners made to put up around Parkersburg, Marietta, Vienna, Belpre to advertise the event. This year, before the event, we put signs up along U.S. 50 in Belpre at the end of toll bridge, which was taken a few days after it was put up, on Ohio 7 before you get into Marietta, and the Marathon station in Marietta. When we went back to get them on Wednesday they were gone. The sign on Ohio 7 was torn off the stakes and the stakes were left. Even last year, we put up a banner on nice, expensive fence stakes at the new cut-through by McDonald's in Parkersburg and when we went by a week later, before the event even started, the banner and stakes were gone.

I have gone around this Mid-Ohio Valley and I see political signs and other signs advertising events all over this valley and they are still standing, but yet a fundraiser for breast cancer signs are being taken down.

What is wrong with these people. It seems to me that someone or a group of people don't want the Mid-Ohio Valley to have a breast cancer walk, because they keep taking the signs and banners.

I hope whoever is taking these signs can live with themselves. These signs are for a breast cancer fundraiser and we as a nonprofit organization have to buy these. We can't afford to keep buying and replacing signs and banners because someone doesn't want a breast cancer walk in this valley or they just want the signs, which I don't see why they would want them.

So please, we ask whoever took these signs not to take them down in the future.
