PARKERSBURG - A Coolville man wanted on a warrant from Alabama was arrested Monday night in Parkersburg after an accident on Emerson Avenue, Parkersburg police said.

The single-car accident happened about 8 p.m. in the 1000 block of Emerson Avenue where Officer J.T. Blevins saw Donald Eugene Dotson, 55, 1277 Youba Ridge Road, Coolville, walking away from the scene, police spokesman Sgt. Greg Collins said.

Dotson was instructed to return, but continued to walk away until Blevins caught up to him and detained him, Collins said.

Dotson then was observed throwing an item into the grass, which was recovered by Blevins, who discovered it was a bottle of Endocet and Oxycontin pills not prescribed to Dotson, Collins said. Further investigation determined Dotson was driving on a revoked license and could not provide proof of insurance on the vehicle, Collins said.

A computer check by the 911 Center revealed Dotson was wanted in Alabama where the Dale County Sheriff's Office said he failed to appear in court on methamphetamine and marijuana charges on Aug. 3, 2004, Collins said. Dale County authorities said they would extradite Dotson, Collins said.

Dotson was taken to police headquarters and processed without further incident. In addition to the felony fugitive from justice charge, he was charged with possession of a controlled substance, obstructing, no operator's license and no proof of insurance, all misdemeanors, Collins said.

He was arraigned in Wood County Magistrate Court and held without bond pending a hearing in Wood County Circuit Court, Collins said.
