VIENNA - The "Scare to Care" fundraiser to raise awareness for juvenile diabetes will be Saturday at McDonough Park in Vienna.
The event, in memory of the late Lester Drennen, will be from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. and include a walk/run, face painting, a chili cookoff and zumba.
Parkersburg native and Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation volunteer Miranda Springer said the event will be held in her brother's name in honor of his struggles as a diabetic. She, her son, her father and her grandmother have all been diagnosed with the illness and it has made a large impact on their lives. "My brother passed away last year from complications from diabetes," she said. "I know how hard of a struggle it is living with diabetes."
Participants can register for the run/walk portion of the event online at www.TriStateRacer.com. Go to the "calendar" link on the top of the page and click on the link for October. The calendar of events has the run/walk listed under Oct. 13. Cost to register is $15 for diabetics, $20 for early entries and $25 for late entries.
More details about the event can be found on the event's Facebook page, www.facebook.com/events/274374836011175. All proceeds from the event will go to the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation.
