Ohio needs Mandal in Senate

October 7, 2012
Parkersburg News and Sentinel

The state treasurer of Ohio Josh Mandal is running for the U.S. Senate. This 34-year-old is well qualified for the position. This has been proven by his prior positions as well as his current one, as state treasurer.

Mandal served as councilman for the city of Lyndhurst. Lyndhurst is in Cuyahoga County, near Cleveland. He introduced and led the fight for the first municipal property tax rollback in Lyndhurst history. The other councilmen said, "Kid, we're going to embarrass you on this; we're going to vote this down one to six." He went to the public. The measure passed 6-1. This was the first tax break of its kind in Cuyahoga County.

As treasurer of Ohio, in his first fiscal year, he had a $400,000 surplus and a budget reduced by $1.2 million. Changes like ending unused phone lines and lowering minutes on cellphone plans, plus his switched online banking, saving the state $100,000 a year. He served in the Marine Corps for eight years, including two tours of duty in Iraq. During both tours, he was awarded the Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal for superior performance of his duties.

His opponent is Sherrod Brown. Brown voted with President Obama 95 percent of the time.

We need this intelligent, energetic young man in our U.S. Senate. We are fortunate to have him requesting the job. Can he have your vote on Nov. 6?
