PARKERSBURG - Volunteers will work at community projects today in Parkersburg and Wood County in the Governor's Day to Serve observance in West Virginia, organizers said.

Participants who will work at two community gardens are asked to meet at 9 a.m. at the parking lot at the Mid-Ohio Valley Health Department from where they will be dispatched to the community garden at First Lutheran Church on 19th Street and to another garden being planned at Lynn Street Church of Christ, organizer Megan Buskirk, community wellness director for the health department, said.

Volunteers can bring a rake or a shovel and be dressed accordingly, she said. About 50 people from numerous organizations are expected, Buskirk said.

Among local projects are the cleanup of Wood County 3/23 and a food drive for pantries in Wood and Washington counties from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. at Tomlinson Park in Williamstown.

For more information, call Buskirk at (740) 581-0476.
