David Carroll King, 88, of Clarksburg, departed this life on Sept. 28, 2012, at his residence following an extended illness.
He was born in Clarksburg, W.Va., on Aug. 29, 1924, a son of the late Wilson Otto and Gertrude Nan Doss King. On Aug. 21, 1948, he married his wife, Dortha Jean Ramsey King, who resides at their residence in Clarksburg.
Mr. King is also survived by two sons, Mike King and his wife, Cathy, of Vienna, W.Va., and Jeff King and his wife, Mary, of Lexington, Ky.; two daughters, Cindy Shaver and her husband, Jim, of Weston, W.Va., and Becky Chase and her husband, Kevin, of Marietta, Ohio; six grandchildren, Meghan Shaver, T.R. Amrine and his wife, Jenny, Andy Amrine and his wife, Tara, Emily Brooks and her husband, Josh, Beth White and her husband, Brian, and Jeff King; six great-grandchildren; one sister, Patty Godfrey of Victoria, Texas; as well as several nieces and nephews.
He was a graduate of Washington Irving High School class of 1943 and a 1949 graduate of West Virginia University. He was President and CEO of W.O. King Plumbing and Heating for 40 years and retired in 1988. For over 60 years, David was an active member of Stealey United Methodist Church, serving many terms as church treasurer. He was also a former President of the West Virginia Plumbing, Heating, Cooling Contractors' Association. In retirement, he volunteered for the Meals on Wheels Program. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy during World War II and was an Aviation Ordinance Officer aboard the aircraft carrier USS Ticonderoga, experiencing combat in several South Pacific Theaters. Dave loved his family, friends, golf, airplanes and dogs.
Family and friends may call at Amos Carvelli Funeral Home, 201 Edison St., Nutter Fort, from 2-8 p.m. Sunday. The funeral service will be held at Amos Carvelli Funeral Home at 1 p.m. Monday with the Rev. J. J. Roller-Otto presiding. Interment will follow in Sunset Memorial Park Cemetery. Full military graveside rites will be accorded by the Harrison County Honor Guard.
