PARKERSBURG - Parkersburg police Tuesday morning were called to Parkersburg High School where a teacher thought a student said he had a gun in his pants pocket, officials said.
The student actually said he had gum and offered to show it to the teacher who saw the outline of an object in the student's pocket and asked what it was, Assistant Superintendent Sue Woodward said. The teacher thought the students said gun and said she didn't want to see the object, Woodward said.
The school's public resource officer, a police officer, was notified and the matter was settled when it was determined the student had a roll of gum, Woodward said. The incident occurred about 10:30 a.m.
