Goodwin to kick off drug take back day

MINERAL?WELLS - The U.S. Attorney for the Southern District of West Virginia at 2 p.m. today will be in Wood County to promote National Prescription Drug Take-Back Day on Saturday.

Booth Goodwin will be joined by members of the Wood County Sheriff's Office and the Mineral Wells Volunteer Fire Department on West Virginia 14, one of nine collection sites in Wood County.

Goodwin also will be at the Ripley Middle School, Ravenswood Middle School and Ravenswood High School in Jackson County today to discuss the dangers of prescription drug abuse. He will be joined with representatives of the Metropolitan Drug Enforcement Network Team from Kanawha County.

Drug Take Back Day is sponsored nationwide by the U.S. Drug Enforcement Agency with local law enforcement agencies. Residents without questions being asked can turn in expired, unwanted or unused drugs, controlled substances and other items.

Drugs collected will be destroyed.

Saturday's collection will take place from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. A collection in May resulted in 674 pounds collected in Wood County, officials said.

Unused drugs can be taken to any of the collection sites. The sites, according to the Drug Enforcement Agency, are at:
