WILLIAMSTOWN - The Wood County Airport Authority is one member short with the recent death of longtime member Virgil Flinn.
Flinn died Friday at Camden Clark Medical Center, St. Joseph's Campus following an illness.
"I was surprised because he was doing so well," said airport manager Terry Moore. "It's pretty awful."
Flinn had served on the Wood County Airport Authority for many years and had announced several months ago that this would be his final year on the board.
"I had already talked to the Wood County Commission that we would need someone new when the fiscal year ended in June," Moore said. "But, we haven't found a replacement."
The board will still be able to conduct business, as the remaining members - president Bill Richardson, vice president John Pflazgraf, treasurer/secretary Jeff McDougle and County Commissioner Wayne Dunn - create a quorum.
The county commission will soon advertise interested parties. The commission will also take applications and vet those people.
"I have let the commission know I am interested in having someone from the same area as Virgil - Lubeck, Mineral Wells, in the southern part of the county," Moore added.
While filling Flinn's seat on the board will happen, Moore said he will not be replaced.
"The skills Virgil brought will be hard to recapture," Moore said. "With Virgil having been a fire chief he was able to help me a lot when we bought the new fire truck a few years ago because I had no idea what equipment or anything else we needed.
"He was more of a behind-the-scenes guy and without him the authority will be different," he added.
