PARKERSBURG - Senior Morgan Armstrong's unreturned spike sealed the 37th annual Snowball Invitational volleyball crown here Saturday night inside Memorial Fieldhouse as host Parkersburg swept Cabell Midland - 29-27 and 25-17.
Kaitlin Farrah served for seven straight points in the second set of the finals as head coach Carl Harnish's Big Reds broke a 16-all tie and took control of the match.
Parkersburg's Paige Warner, who had a championship match-high 13 kills, actually set up match point for herself at the service line when she registered a crosscourt kill from one of Lyxis Reeder's match-high 20 assists to make it 24-17.

"We hustled today and they looked good," said Harnish, who watched Big Red Imani Ward earn MVP honors. "We beat two good teams to get to the championship.
"We finally found our concentration. They wanted to win bad and it was kind of neat to see our junior varsity team play well."
PHS ousted 2011 Class A state runner-up Williamstown, which was led by Jessie Kerns' 11 points and two aces along with Brooke Cieslewski's 10 digs, by scores of 26-24 and 25-15 in the quarterfinals. George Washington, which is still playing without West Virginia University commit Hannah Shreve, fell in straight 25-22 sets to the Big Reds in the semifinals.

Cabell Midland punched its ticket to the finals by ousting Woodrow Wilson - 25-23 and 25-21 - but the Knights lost senior setter Taylor Riedel in the victory to an elbow injury and she didn't return.
With Cassie Weaver, who had a team-high seven kills in the finals, at the service line the Knights had a late 20-18 cushion in the first championship set as Erin Bowling registered consecutive kill blocks. The Knights actually had three chances at set point, but couldn't finish and PHS took the lead in the best-of-three finals match when Alexandra Dils put down a kill for the 29-27 triumph.
PHS jumped out to a quick 7-4 cushion in the second championship set and still led 12-9 when Armstrong put one down. Cabell Midland continued to battle and tied it at 15 after a Keely Thompson service tally. Thanks to a Big Red attack error, CMHS took its last lead at 16-15, but then the Knights made four consecutive unforced errors and never recovered.
Aside from Ward, the Big Reds landed all-tournament members in Warner and Megan Morrison, who had five points, two aces, a kill and a dozen digs in the finals. Riedel and Bowling were selected to the all-tournament squad along with Woodrow Wilson libero Haley Bristow, GW's Alexis Mourier and Parkersburg junior varsity player Alison Schumacher.
The PHS junior varsity team managed to reach the quarterfinals, but lost 25-17 and 25-20 to Woodrow Wilson. The biggest triumph for the Big Red JV squad came when they pulled off a tie with George Washington in pool play - losing 25-17 and winning 25-23.
