ELIZABETH - A Wirt County man died Friday afternoon while cutting a tree on his property in the Palestine area of Wirt County.
Elva Kelley, 55, of Clydes Dale near Palestine, was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident on his property Friday afternoon, said Sgt. Lew Peck with the Wirt County Sheriff's Department.
Peck said Kelley was cutting a large tree in the wood line on his property when the tree split and he was struck. The accident apparently happened about 1 p.m. Friday and Kelley was found about 2:50 p.m. after family members began searching for him, Peck said.
Peck said the investigation was closed with Coroner Mike St. Clair's pronouncement and Kelley's body was released to his family.
