Alva Ellsworth Hartshorn, 88, of Elizabeth, passed away Sunday, Sept. 16, 2012, following a long illness.
He was born March 25, 1924 in Newell's Run, Washington County, Ohio, a son to the late Raleigh and Anna Hartshorn. After serving in the U.S. Army Air Corps during WWII, he retired from Sears and was most recently a night guard at Laborer's Training Center.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by brothers, James T. Hartshorn and Osten Hartshorn; and sisters, Pearl Delong and Deborah Shawver. He is survived by his wife, Sheila Hartshorn; son, David Hartshorn; daughters, Marilyn Bauer, Janice Lookabaugh and Patricia Roberts; step-children, Kimberly Birney, Kasey McCulty and Samantha Delaney; sister, Ellen Duvall; along with several grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
Service will be noon Thursday at Sunset Memorial Funeral Home, Parkersburg. Burial to follow in the Donel C. Kinnard Memorial State Veterans Cemetery. Visitation will be from 10 a.m. till the time of service Thursday.
