PARKERSBURG - Running 101, a free, 10-week training program for new runners about succeeding at walking, jogging or running across a 5-K finish line is starting.
Running 101 provides weekly emails and step-by-step training to help participants build confidence and physical endurance. Highmark has partnered with popular 5K races in West Virginia including the Parkersburg Turkey Trot held the Thanksgiving morning at City Park.
Registration is available through Aug. 31.
When participants make a commitment to train for 10 weeks, they can choose to train virtually or in-person with a coach in select locations. All participants receive weekly motivational emails with optional text messages, MP3s with music to help guide each workout, links to stay connected with other trainees through the Running 101 Facebook page and Twitter feed and access to training videos from Lauren Fleshman, three-time NCAA 5,000 meter Outdoor Champion and 15-time NCAA All American.
Enthusiasts of 5K races can join other races across the state and register to train with Running 101 through Aug. 31. More information is available at www.highmark.com/running101.
