KANAWHA - A 46-year-old woman from Wood County died Monday night in a two-vehicle head-on collision on West Virginia 47 in Wood County, officials said.

A Volkswagen Beetle heading eastbound collided with a vehicle heading westbound around 8:45 p.m., officials said. The accident occurred east of Kanawha in a bend about two miles from Kanawha Elementary School.

The identity of the victim and information on possible injuries in the other vehicle were not immediately available, said Sgt. Brett Pickens of the Wood County Sheriff's Office.

Pickens said the 1999 Ford Explorer was traveling westbound on W.Va. 47 when the driver lost control. The driver re-entered the roadway and struck a 2004 Volkswagen Beetle, traveling eastbound on W.Va. 47, he said.

Two people from each vehicle are being treated at Camden Clark Medical Center. Pickens said weather could have played a factor in the crash.

The westbound lane of W.Va. 47 was closed for several hours after the accident.
