Seeing what they want to see

August 19, 2012
Parkersburg News and Sentinel

So, I wonder who lives in their home with the curtains drawn. "By definition, there is no evidence that socialism is advancing in America. And ditto for communism." Obviously someone sees nothing but what they want to see. Socialism has advanced in leaps and bounds in the U.S. over the last 50 years.

Take for example, "socialized health care," meaning the government controls health care. Or going back to the roots, Social Security, the government takes part of your paycheck supposedly to return it to you at a later date. These are just two examples of what the government has done to take control of its citizens.

What about the government's interference with the two big lending companies and the auto industry? Is that not government control, especially since the "bailout" now gives the government authority to tell these companies what to do, i.e., build the flopping Chevy Volt?

Let's not forget about the authorization recently given to allow drones to fly over U.S. airspace to monitor the activities of citizens. Or perhaps one might turn a blind eye to this so as to sleep better at night knowing that big brother is watching over him.

Maybe one should step back and fully examine the facts that are present before passing judgment on another with whom they disagree. The evidence is there; you just have to open your eyes to see them. Stop drinking the Kool Aid. We are losing more of our freedoms every day in the name of "the common good." Remember, if you're not part of the solution, you're part of the problem.
