No justification for Iraq war

August 19, 2012
Parkersburg News and Sentinel

In response to Mr. Cutright's after-the-fact justification of the war in Iran, one would have to say "baloney." We went into the war because of the weapons of mass destruction which proved to be made up by the Bush administration. Who can forget Colin Powell pointing to pictures and saying how obvious the weapons of mass destruction were. Justifying the war after the fact became a popular game the American people seemed OK with.

However, Lowe was right, it was a war that should never have been fought, the 400 American lives and the 100,000 Iraqi lives that were lost, were lost in vain. That still causes me sorrow when I think of it.

The trillion-plus dollars that were borrowed and spent for that war could have been used elsewhere, or not at all. The USA cannot afford to remove every bad guy in the world if it involves going to war. How about the millions of terrible deaths in the Sudan? Nothing mentioned there. We can't afford to be the police of the world.
