PARKERSBURG -The only game in town.
That's the claim Parkersburg South can make come Friday night, when the Patriots open the 2012 football season at the Erickson All-Sports Facility against visiting Ripley.
South isn't just the only game in town, but it also is the only game in Wood County as Parkersburg High, Parkersburg Catholic and Williamstown all play their season openers on the road.
The Big Reds will travel to Wellsburg to meet Brooke in a game that will start at 7 p.m. Like South and Ripley, PHS and Brooke have become accustomed to opening the season against one another.
Williamstown also will head north, traveling to Kidwell to meet Tyler Consolidated in yet another game that will start at 7 p.m. Meanwhile, Parkersburg Catholic will venture south, meeting Buffalo in a game that will start at the traditional 7:30 p.m. time.
Two Washington County teams will open at home as Belpre will take on Paint Valley at Ralph Holder Stadium while Warren will play host to Philo.
