Mosquitoes have been swarming the Norwood area of Marietta. This summer has been the worst of all. Several residents in the area have contacted environmentalists in Marietta to do something about this problem. The only action taken has been to set two traps in the neighborhood for less than 24 hours. It turns out they used the wrong type of bait. They were trying to bait regular mosquitoes, instead of the Japanese Rock Pool Mosquitoes that seem to be in the area.
These mosquitoes can transmit LaCrosse encephalitis virus and West Nile virus to humans. We've all emptied any buckets outside and there are no large tires in the area collecting water like the environmentalists would like to believe, yet the city is doing nothing at all to help us figure out where these insects have come from! They swarm our houses, children can't play outside without being sprayed down head to toe with bug spray. Sometimes, that doesn't even help.
I'm not sure if they're bad like this everywhere, but someone, somewhere, please help us get the word out. The city of Marietta needs to help keep residents safe.
