PARKERSBURG - Dan Ramsey of South Charleston Post 94 recorded the pitching win and squeezed the last out of the game on a foul ball in right field as the three-time defending American Legion state champions doubled up host Parkersburg Post 15 by a score of 10-5 on Friday evening at Bennett Stump Field in Area 3 tournament play.

Ramsey worked five innings and fanned seven. He fell behind 2-0 early before Post 94 (26-12) jumped ahead for good with a three-run second and then tacked on four more in the third for a 7-2 cushion they never relinquished. Of the seven runs in those two frames, only three were earned against Post 15 losing hurler Kyle Haverty.

"We went flat," said Parkersburg skipper Jim Goodwin, whose squad dropped to 34-9 and now plays an elimination contest at 1 p.m. today back inside City Park versus St. Marys Post 79.

Parkersburg Post 15’s Jordan Braniff is tagged out at the plate by South Charleston Post 94 catcher Justin Hunt on what turned out to be a delayed safety squeeze which turned into an inning-ending double play in the second frame.

"We got a good performance out of Haverty and we backed it up with (five) errors and you can't do that against a good team like them."

Ramsey shifted to right after the fifth and Craig Johnson entered and worked the final four frames for the save. The duo allowed just seven hits and recorded 10 strikeouts. On top of that, Parkersburg managed just a 1-for-18 showing from its five through nine batters.

Jacob Wilcox got the home crowd cheering early with a two-run single that plated Josh Wine and Case Edgar in the bottom of the first.
