PARKERSBURG WorkForce West Virginia Friday released the county seasonally adjusted unemployment rates for June in West Virginia.
Unemployment inched upward a tenth of a point to 7 percent, the agency said.
Unemployment climbed in 23 counties while 25 counties reported falling unemployment rates in June.
Wood, Wirt, Doddridge, Gilmer and Tyler counties are among the 23. Rates dropped in Calhoun, Jackson, Pleasants and Roane counties.
Seven counties, Jefferson, Marion, Nicholas, Raleigh, Ritchie, Taylor and Webster, reported no change in their unemployment rates.
Counties with unemployment above 11 percent are Mason (11.1), Webster (11.9) and Boone (12.2). Counties with unemployment rates less than six percent are Monroe (5.8), Putnam (5.8), Jefferson (5.2) and Monongalia (5.2).
Unemployment rates in local counties are (June, May, June 2011):

* Doddridge: 6.6, 6.3, 8.2
* Gilmer: 7.2, 6.9. 7.6
* Jackson: 8.9. 9.0, 10.9
* Pleasants: 8.4, 8.7, 11.1
* Ritchie: 7, 7, 9.1
* Roane: 10.2, 10.5, 11.9
* Tyler: 9.1, 9, 10.6
* Wirt: 10, 8.9, 11.8
* Wood: 7.3, 7.1, 8.5
Also, the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics on Friday said unemployment rose in 27 states from May to June. Unemployment dropped in 11 states and the District of Columbia, the agency said.
Six states experienced statistically significant increases in unemployment compared to May:
* New Jersey, up .4 percent to 9.6 percent
* Alabama, up .4 percent to 7.8 percent
* New York, up .3 percent to 8.9 percent
* Alaska, up .3 percent to 7.3 percent
* Wisconsin, up .2 percent to 7 percent
* Pennsylvania, up .1 percent to 7.5 percent
