Inger Mendoza of The Wine Basket in Vienna is shown with samples of wine for the June 30 wine tasting fundraiser at the Parkersburg Country Club to benefit SW Resources Inc., a nonprofit community-based rehabilitation facility that provides employment/rehabilitation opportunities for individuals with disabilities.
"This event is for everyone, whether you are a wine connoisseur, a beginner, just interested in learning more about wines and sampling different types or just want to support a really good cause.
This event is for you," said Inger Mendoza of The Wine Basket.
A certified wine educator will answer questions and talk about wines.
"Without the support of community businesses, SW Resources would not be able to provide the quality services we do for our client/employees. We are planning to use the funds raised by this event, in conjunction with our auction, to continue providing rehabilitation and employment services to our client/employees," April Pennell, vice president development and rehabilitation at SW Resources, said.
Guests will receive a swag bag that can hold six bottles of wine, a govino wine glass, Holl's Swiss Chocolates, a waitress corkscrew and a bottle of water. Door prizes will be awarded throughout the event and there will be a raffle for a Magnum Caymus Cabernet.
"The cabernet is probably valued at between $200-$250 and was donated by the vineyard," Rene Imler, owner of The Wine Basket, said.
Sponsorships are available for the event, a sampling table or region or to adopt a bottle of wine by contacting The Wine Basket.
Light fare will be available, including crackers, cheese and fruit. The Parkersburg County Club's pastry chef will do a chocolate demonstration and there will be samples of chocolate for tasting.
Imler said her shop, which recently expanded to offer specialty beers, hopes to sponsor a beer-sampling benefit in October with the proceeds also going to SW Resources.
SW is a nonprofit community-based rehabilitation facility that provides employment opportunities to individuals with disabilities.
