Keep kids out of the street

May 13, 2012
Parkersburg News and Sentinel

There needs to be a law passed concerning traffic safety. I live in a small neighborhood off Seventh Street in Parkersburg. Every time I come home, unless it's extremely late at night or early morning, I can guarantee encountering little kids randomly playing in the streets. There are times, when cars are parked on both sides of the street and only room for one car. So, not only do you have to be cautious about the cars on both sides of you, you have to worry about a little kid popping out on a bike, chasing a ball, or something of the sort.

While legally, the speed limit in a residential neighborhood is 25 mph, I go about 15-20 mph for fear of these children. I believe that Parkersburg - and surrounding cities - need to pass a law banning kids from playing in the road. I believe no one should be playing in the streets regardless it's riding bikes in a circle in front of the house, playing basketball or anything of the sorts.

Keep it in your driveway, go to the park, just please stay out of the streets, for the safety of the children and the sanity and safety of our drivers.
