WOMEN

No. 24 DePaul 77, West Virginia 63

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. (AP) - Brittany Hrynko scored 21 points and Anna Martin added 19 as 24th-ranked DePaul came back in the second half to defeat West Virginia 77-63 Saturday after trailing by 14 at halftime.

The Blue Demons (20-7, 8-5 Big East) scored 53 points in the second half, while making 17 of 25 shots (68 percent). Hrynko was 4 of 5 from 3-point range in the second half.

The Mountaineers (19-7, 9-4), who had won their last five, including wins over ranked opponents Louisville, Notre Dame and Rutgers in their last three, shot 27.3 percent (9 of 33) in the second half.

DePaul began the second half with a 14-0 run as West Virginia went scoreless for the first 4:55.

John Carroll 93, Marietta 63

UNIVERSITY HEIGHTS, Ohio The Marietta College women's basketball team fell in its regular-season finale to the host John Carroll Blue Streaks 93-63 Saturday afternoon.

Marietta is now 10-15 overall and 5-13 in the Ohio Athletic Conference. John Carroll is now 9-15 overall and 6-12 in the OAC.

Marietta is the No. 8 seed in the OAC tournament this week. The Pioneers will travel to Baldwin-Wallace on Monday night at 7:30 p.m. in an opening-round tournament game.

Junior post Aleisha Guiler led the Pioneers with 16 points and six rebounds. Freshman Lindsay Deemer scored eight points with a game-high eight boards. Sophomore guard Tori Dixon added eight points in the loss.

For John Carroll, Melissa Spahar scored a game-high 26 points with four rebounds. Emilee Ritchie scored 19 points with four steals and Beth Switzer chipped in with 15 points and six boards.

Ohio 51, Kent State 45

ATHENS, Ohio - On a day honoring seniors Tenishia Benson and Alesia Howard, the Ohio women's basketball team picked up its 12th victory of the season Saturday afternoon with a 51-45 win over Kent State.

Ohio's defense was tenacious throughout the victory, forcing Kent State into 32 turnovers and collecting 16 steals.

The win was an important one for Ohio (12-15, 5-8 Mid-American Conference), putting the Bobcats into eighth place for the time being.

With the top four seeds receiving a bye in the first-round of the conference tournament, seeds 5 through 8 host first-round games on March 3.

The Bobcats' Shavon Robinson led all scorers with 16 points. She was joined in double figures by Benson, who scored 11 and was just one rebound shy of a double-double. Tina Fisher collected a career high five steals in the victory and also grabbed six boards.

Leslie Schaefer led the way for Kent State, scoring 13 points on 5-of-8 shooting.

Glenville State 75, West Liberty 66

WEST LIBERTY, W. Va. - Glenville State posted a 13-point halftime advantage and held on for a 75-66 road win at West Liberty.

Jelena Elez led the Pioneers with a game-high 20 points in the win. Kenyell Goodson scored 14 while Tenisha Wilson chipped in 12. Mishae Miles scored just five points, but pulled down a team-best 10 rebounds. Danielle Woodmore accounted for five steals.

Shanae Ash came off the bench to net a team-best 18 points for the Hilltoppers. Kayla Ayers scored 12 points and grabbed a game-high 18 rebounds. Emily Blevins, Jenn Cessna and Hillary Southworth all hit for 10 points. Blevins dished out a game-high seven assists.

MEN

John Carroll 78, Marietta 76

MARIETTA - The Marietta College men's basketball team and John Carroll Blue Streaks came into Saturday's showdown with the Ohio Athletic Conference regular-season title on the line and after trading blow after blow, John Carroll came out victorious 78-76 inside Ban Johnson Arena.

John Carroll (18-6 overall, 13-5 OAC) clinched a share of the league title with Capital and claimed the top seed in this week's OAC tournament.

Marietta (17-8 overall, 12-6 OAC) is now the No. 3 seed and will play the winner of Ohio Northern/Mount Union at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday inside BJA.

The instant classic featured six ties and 11 lead changes through 40 minutes.

Marietta started off on a 10-2 run in the first 3:02 of the game, getting the 1,437 screaming Pioneer faithful going from the start.

West Liberty 103, Glenville State 88

WEST LIBERTY - Kevin Gray pumped in a game-high 29 points, but it wasn't nearly enough for visiting Glenville State here Saturday as No. 2 West Liberty posted a 103-88 West Virginia Conference triumph.

GSC, now 6-18 overall and 5-15 in the WVIAC, also had double figure scoring efforts from Andy Dollman (15), Jamel Morris (14) and Octavius Hinnant (13). Nate Cash chipped in eight points and 13 caroms in the setback.

The Hilltoppers (25-1, 20-0) had five players score in double digits, led by Alex Falk's 28 point effort. C.J. Hester added a monster double-double of 18 points and a game-high 17 rebounds.

Ohio 81, UNC Asheville 62

ATHENS, Ohio (AP) - Walter Offutt scored 19 points and Ohio beat UNC Asheville 81-62 on Saturday night.

Offutt shot 8 of 10 from the field and knocked down three 3-pointers for the Bobcats (21-6), who have won eight of its last 10 games and improved to 4-0 at home in Bracket Buster contests. Nick Kellogg added 10 points, five rebounds and three steals.

Ohio never trailed, scoring the game's first six points and taking a 19-6 lead behind a 3-pointer from Offutt.

The Bobcats held UNC Asheville (18-10) to just 5 of 23 shooting in the first half and led 34-18 at halftime.

The Bulldogs shot 34 percent (18 of 53) from the floor, while Ohio made 57.7 percent (30 of 52) of its attempts.
