Dr. and Mrs. Michael Hensley of Parkersburg announce the engagement of their daughter, Alice Aileen, to Jeremy David Walz, son of Mr. and Mrs. David Walz of Slidell, La.

The bride-to-be is the granddaughter of George and Iris Hensley of Savannah, Ga., and the late Richard Woodrum and the late Doris Woodrum of Vienna. She is a 2001 graduate of Parkersburg High School and a 2005 graduate of Williams College at Williamstown, Mass., where she received a bachelor's degree in biology. She received her doctorate of medicine from the Joan C. Edwards School of Medicine at Marshall University in May 2011 and is a resident in pediatrics at Stanford University in Palo Alto, Calif.

The prospective bridegroom is the grandson of Dorothy Walz and the late Henry Walz of Randolph, Neb., and Glenn and Iona Johnson of Beatrice, Neb. He is a 2000 graduate of Slidell High School and a 2004 graduate of the University of Southern Mississippi, where he received a bachelor's degree in biology. He received a doctorate in optometry in 2009 from the University of Alabama at Birmingham. He is an optometry fellow in traumatic brain injury at the Palo Alto Veterans Administration Medical Center.
