BELPRE - A 19-0 Eastern opening run after a 3-0 Belpre lead gave the visiting Eagles an early lead that they continued to add onto throughout the TVC Hocking Division girls basketball game Thursday night en route to a 90-44 pounding of the Golden Eagles.
One-loss Eastern was paced in the rout by 35 points, including seven treys, from sophomore point guard Jenna Burdette, a returning first-team all-state selection as just a mere freshman last season when the Eagles advanced all the way to the regional finals.

Haley Gillian added 11 points and Maddie Rigsby 10 for Eastern.
For Belpre, now 8-3, Allison Flowers netted 18 points and Kelsey Lerch seven.
Burdette, daughter of Eastern head coach John Burdette, scored 11 points in the 19-0 spurt as the Eagles were up 23-5 at the quarter break, 43-21 by halftime and 67-30 after three periods before their lead crested at 48 points twice in the final three minutes.
Despite the lopsided score, ''we learned some things, and there were times when we didn't look bad tonight and did some things OK,'' said Belpre head coach Scott Miller. ''It still comes down to a defensive struggle for us as we let people score way too easily, and we've got to work on it.
''But going against a really good team like Eastern when you're outsized by seven inches at three positions to start the game, you've got to do something to give them only one attempt. The problem tonight, though, was that Jenna shot the lights out, and one attempt most times was all they needed.''
For Eastern coach Burdette, ''what I'm most happy with tonight is we're playing more and more together.''
But he'd like to get to the state this year. ''That's a goal, though, were taking baby steps to get there what with having to rebuild after losing three starters off last year's team. But our older girls are meshing well with my younger girls and they're all starting to be a tight, little family again, and that's what we need. That's what you've got to have to be successful.''
