Slick-shooting Fairmont State guard Kaitlin Snyder must have thought Ohio Valley University's SAC was home Thursday evening, dropping in a game-high 34 points - including six treys - as the visiting Falcons halted the Fighting Scots' three-game win streak with an 86-72 triumph.

The loss left OVU at 5-2 overall and 3-2 in the WVIAC while Fairmont is now 2-2 and 1-2 in the conference.

The first half saw the Scots lead by seven, 15-8, early, only to turn into a back-and-forth contest in the final nine minutes with the lead changing hands constantly. But a Fairmont three-point play by Hailey Garrett at the 38-second mark followed by two free throws from Snyder with 9.8 seconds left lifted the Falcons into a 41-37 advantage at halftime.

Then a 10-2 run to start the second half put Fairmont in control just five minutes in with a 12-point lead, 51-39. The Falcons went up 15, 60-45, on consecutive Kelsi Wrigtht hoops, the last a 3, with 11:54 to play. But OVU, sparked by Shante Cummings and Amber Avery, didn't let the lead get too far away, keeping the Scots within striking distance until the final five minutes of play when Snyder and company finished off their hosts.

After Snyder for the Falcons were Tiffany Nicholson with 13 points, Garrett with 12 and Wright with 11.

For OVU, Avery led with 23 points, Shelby Way notched 17 and Cummings netted 16 along with a game-best 15 rebounds.

Kendall Allison, who had a team-high 18 points, gave Ohio Valley (2-4, 2-3) its only lead of the contest at 3-2 early, but it was all Fairmont State after that as the visitors connected on 10 of their first 15 shots in eventually breaking out to a 31-13 advantage the Fighting Scots never could recover from.

Ohio Valley, which got a double-double of 10 points and 11 rebounds from Rodney Everage, couldn't buy a basket for most of the game as easy shots kept going in-and-out or around the cylinder en route to hitting on less than 33 percent of its field goals.

Chris Thompson grabbed a career-high 16 rebounds and added nine points while teammate Steve Custis led all point-producers with a game-high 20.

The Fighting Scots, who return to action Saturday afternoon at Davis & Elkins, got an Allison bomb to open the second half scoring which closed the deficit to 14 at 38-24, but the hosts never got any closer.

Custis, who added seven caroms, four assists and a pair of steals, put one down with 10:59 left in the contest via a Thompson feed on a run out as FSU (1-3, 1-2) increased its cushion to 50-31.

A late triple by Steve White Jr. allowed Ohio Valley to break the 50-point plateau. The last time OVU didn't score half the century mark came on Dec. 12 back in 2009 during a 101-35 setback to Southern Indiana.
