Police: Cyclist struck by car

MARIETTA - A bicyclist was struck by a vehicle at the intersection of Ohio 7 and County House Lane as he was reportedly attempting to cross the four-lane highway against a green light Monday evening.

Chester Wilson, 53, is in critical condition at Marietta Memorial Hospital, hospital officials said. Washington County Sheriff Larry Mincks said Wilson was the bicyclist.

According to Trooper Garic Warner with the Ohio State Highway Patrol's Marietta post, the bicycle rider was struck by a westbound Chevy Impala traveling in the right lane of Ohio 7 around 6:30 p.m.

The rider of this bicycle was struck by a vehicle as he attempted to cross Ohio 7 Monday night, officials said.

Witnesses said the signal at the intersection was green for both eastbound and westbound traffic.

The name of the driver was unavailable.

Units from the Marietta Fire Department and Reno Volunteer Fire Department responded.

Marietta City Police also initially responded before turning the investigation over to the Ohio State Highway Patrol.

Details on the accident were unavailable late Monday night.
