Margaret Kessinger

Margaret Anne "Peggy" Kessinger died at home Sept. 21, 2011.

She was born Feb. 27, 1922, a daughter of the late Enoch Love and Grace (Anderson) Ellison.

She graduated from Woodrow Wilson High School, attended Beckley College from 1939 to 1940, Northern Virginia Community College in Arlington, Va., and received her B.S.J.E. from WVU, where she was a member of Kappa Tau Alpha.

She was a former member of First Methodist Church in Beckley, W.Va. She was a reporter and city editor for Raleigh Register newspaper from 1941-1962, Regional News Director for Beckley Newspaper Corp., Publicist, Public Relations, and Advertising for "Honey in the Rock" drama from 1963-1964, research assistant for freelance writer Bert Mills in Washington, D.C., from 1965-1966, and a journalism teacher and Director of Public Information at Parkersburg Community College from 1971-1986. She also served as recording secretary for West Virginia Press Women, Recording Secretary of Beckley's Business and Professional Club from 1949-1950, and President of Raleigh County Republican Women in 1952.

She enjoyed sewing, cooking, flowers, indoor plants, outdoor birds, pets, swimming, family, neighbors and friends. She was generous with her love and care.

She is survived by two daughters, Margaret Anne Kessinger, MD, and her husband, Loyd Wegner, and Alice Theodora Rolette; a granddaughter, Angela Ann Rolette; six great-grandchildren; and several nephews and nieces.

In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Clisby Theodore Kessinger, who died in May of 2007; two brothers, Edward Enoch Ellison and John Matthew "Jack" Ellison; and two sisters, Jane Love Rader and Elizabeth Grace "Patty" Huntoon.

There will be no visitation or services. Her remains will be inurned at Wildwood Cemetery in Beckley, W.Va.

Leavitt Funeral Home, Parkersburg, is assisting the family with cremation arrangements.
