WILLIAMSTOWN - Parkersburg Catholic couldn't find a way to build any kind of consistent threat here Thursday as host Williamstown got a pair of goals from Jarric Hoskins en route to a 5-0 boys soccer victory.

The Yellowjackets, now 2-0 with a road game on Thursday at Belpre, had Crusader keeper Eric Scott under heavy fire in the opening five minutes of the match, but couldn't get a shot on goal.

However, in the sixth minute of action Josh Walters booted one inside the lower left post via a Megan Albertson assist for what proved to be the only tally the hosts would need.

Parkersburg Catholic’s Tullie Lynch-Pasteur, right, just beats Williamstown’s Megan Albertson to the ball during a soccer match Thursday night.

"It's always nice to get a couple wins right off the bat," said WHS first-year head coach Mike Albertson. "I don't think we've been in a 2-0 position for a long time.

"However, I think we need to work on more possession and controlling the ball and playing the ball wide. We've got to play to our strengths, our midfield and our width."

With the ball across midfield in the 14th minute, Hoskins headed a ball toward the Crusader 18 for teammate Josh Walters, who blistered a shot to Scott. The PCHS keeper wasn't able to hold on and when the ball came out Hoskins was there for an easy rebound goal and a 2-0 cushion.

The Crusaders, now 0-2 with a home match Thursday versus Ohio Valley Christian, tried to make a run soon after allowing the second goal. Andrew Steele managed to push the ball to Bobby Casto, who got it to Haley Yeomans, but the Yellowjacket defense managed to clear it.

Williamstown took a 3-0 advantage into the break thanks to Garret Butler's goal in the 23rd minute from an Evan Fowler assist. The junior Fowler had a hat trick in Williamstown's season-opening 4-0 victory against Sissonville.

Casto did have a solid shot on goal in the first half and Emily Koerber had a late chance in the second half, but 'Jacket keeper Andrew Essig finished with a clean slate.

The PCHS defense played well for most of the second half, but allowed a goal in the 70th minute. That's when Colton Kiselica played a ball deep into the box on the left side and Hoskins directed it across the field and sneaked it into the net on the lower right corner as it glanced off the post.

Williamstown added its last goal thanks to Kayla Semon in the 79th minute. The 'Jacket senior took advantage of a ball not getting cleared and sent a high floater above the head of Scott that just went below the top of the crossbar and into the back of the net.
