PARKERSBURG -Charleston Catholic's streak ended right where it began - on Parkersburg South's home turf at Erickson All-Sports Facility.
In its season-opener on Saturday night, the South girls soccer team defeated three-time defending state champion Charleston Catholic 7-0, which ended a streak that witnessed the Irish win or tie 46 consecutive matches. The streak began with a 4-2 win against the Patriots on Aug. 25, 2009.
"We wanted this one and we played like it," South coach Rick Bush said.
Kari Simon led the charge for South after scoring three goals, including two in the first half, and assisted on another. Teammate Mary Lewis contributed two scores, while Lexi Smith and Andrea Williams added one goal apiece.
Pitching the shutout for South was keeper Tiffany Schultz, who made two saves as South outshot Charleston Catholic 31-4.

BECKLEY -The Parkersburg girls soccer team peppered Woodrow Wilson with 23 shots on goal and won 4-0 on the road Saturday.
Raemy Conley not only scored three goals for the 1-0 Big Reds, but also assisted on another one scored by Alex Dickason.

Parkersburg South 4, Linsly 1
WHEELING -Joe Holland and Dillon Dowler both scored one goal and assisted on another as the Parkersburg South boys soccer team made its 2011 debut with a 4-1 victory against Linsly on Saturday.
South scored the first three goals of the match, including one by Kalen Kelley.

WHEELING - Wheeling Park scored the eventual game-winning with 27 minutes remaining in regulation and handed Parkersburg its first loss in two matches with a 2-1 win Saturday.
Zach Wilcoxen scored the Big Reds' lone goal on an assist by Brian Runyon to tie the match at 1 early in the second half.
