Amy Liszka Whitaker and Kevin James Ward were united in marriage on March 5 at Williamson Chapel United Methodist Church in Mooresville, N.C., by the Rev. Benjamin Devoid. Also officiating at the afternoon ceremony were the Rev. Rob Fuquay and the Rev. Andrea Smith, pastor and campus pastor of Williamson Chapel United Methodist Church.

The bride is the daughter of Dr. and Mrs. Charles F. Whitaker III of Parkersburg and the granddaughter of the late Dr. Charles and Betsy Whitaker. The groom is the son of Alice Ward of Troutman, N.C. and Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Ward of Dallas, N.C.

Attending the bride as matrons of honor were her sisters-in-law, Dr. Chastity Whitaker and Dr. Christinia Whitaker.

Bridesmaids were the groom's sisters, Dr. Kimberly Jackson and Christina Jarrell.

Serving as best men were the groom's brothers, 1st Lt. Cary Ward and Sgt. Kelly Ward. Groomsmen were the bride's brothers, Dr. Charles F. Whitaker IV and Matthew Whitaker, and the groom's brother-in-law, Mike Jackson. Ring bearer was Caleb Whitaker, nephew of the bride. Honorary ring bearers were Micah Whitaker, Derik and Bryan Ward and honorary flower girls were Cerenity Whitaker and Elsie Jackson, nieces and nephews of the bride and groom.

The bride's processional and the couple's recessional were bagpipe selections provided by Dr. Stuart Davidson, the bride's academic adviser at Greensboro College.

The bride's gown was made of tissue taffeta with a ruched bodice and crystal accents at the waist with a chapel length train. Her veil was cathedral length. She carried a bouquet of white calla lilies.

Her shoes were Carolina blue.

The bridesmaids wore navy blue short dresses and they carried bouquets of calla lilies.

A cookies and punch reception was held by the parents of the Williamson Chapel youth group immediately following the ceremony in the fellowship hall. A dinner reception was held by the bride's parents at the Charles Mack Center in the evening.

The bride is a graduate of Greensboro College with a mathematics degree and is a graduate of North Carolina State University with a master's degree in mathematics education. She is employed as a high school math teacher at Mooresville High School.

The groom is a graduate of Greensboro College with a degree in religion and philosophy. He is a graduate of Pfeiffer University with a master's degree in Christian education. He is employed by Williamson Chapel United Methodist Church.

A honeymoon is planned for St. Maarten in April and the couple will reside in the Charlotte area.
