Christians to mark beginning of Lenten season

PARKERSBURG - Christians around the world will mark the beginning of the Lenten season with Ash Wednesday services today.

Ash Wednesday gets its name from the practice of placing ashes on the foreheads as a sign of mourning and repentance.

The ashes used are typically gathered after the palms or Palm Crosses from the previous year's Palm Sunday are burned.
