Arrest made in Franklin theft

PARKERSBURG - A Parkersburg man was arrested Thursday in connection with a theft at a Wood County school this week.

Christopher Lee Nelson, 35, 1313 Division St., was arrested early Thursday morning after police officers received information that stolen property was in his residence, said Parkersburg Police Chief Joe Martin.

Nelson was charged with receiving or transferring stolen property following the execution of a search warrant at his residence, said Martin.

Police recovered a 42-inch Vizio television, a Fender amplification system, a small safe and handbags containing inhalers and medication. The items were identified as those stolen from Franklin Elementary Center sometime Monday night, Martin said.

"He admitted to concealing stolen property at his house," Martin said.

"The investigation is still ongoing at this time, but once it is complete, I expect more charges will be filed."

He remains incarcerated at the Wood County Holding Center on a $7,500 bond.

Stolen property, including medication, a television and amplification system, were recovered from his Division Street residence, police said.

Police are searching for another suspect they believe to be involved in the theft and vandalism of Franklin Elementary Center.

The arrest stems from a breaking and entering sometime Monday night at Franklin Elementary Center, 1511 Division St. Ext. Eight windows were knocked out and several items, including two laptops, an amplification system and 42-inch television, were stolen.

Medication also was stolen from the nurse's office, police said.

A second breaking and entering occurred the same night at the rear annex of Parkersburg High School. The football coach's office was ransacked and items were stolen from the locker room, including $300 in cash and bottles of Gatorade.

Police said the incidents may be connected. Physical evidence, including footprints and fingerprints, were recovered from both schools.

Nelson was arraigned before Wood County Magistrate Donna Jackson. He remained incarcerated Thursday at the Wood County Holding Center on $7,500 bond.
