PARKERSBURG - A local family was selected as a finalist in a national Pillsbury contest about the joy of Sunday mornings.
The Parsons family of Parkersburg is one of three families chosen from thousands of applicants in the Pillsbury Cinnamon Rolls "My Sweet Sunday Moment" Contest. The grand prize winner, to be announced in October, wins a seven-day family vacation to California.
The family was picked based on its essay about why they love Sunday mornings. A professional film crew was in Parkersburg on Saturday to film the family at home, essentially bringing their essay to life with a creative video.

Amber Parsons and her daughters, from left, Ashleigh, 17, Erica, 10, and Lauren, 15, are finalists in the Pillsbury Cinnamon Rolls “My Sweet Sunday Moment” Contest. The public can vote for their favorite video at pillsbury.com starting Sept. 23.
"I entered the contest on a whim, never really thinking anything would come of it," said Amber Parsons, mother of three girls. "We're all really excited; the girls would love to go to California."
Parsons submitted a 200-word essay about spending quality time with her daughters, Erica, 10, Lauren, 15, and Ashleigh, 17, on Sunday mornings before the busy school week ahead.
"Sunday for us is about quiet time and relaxing. I just started going back to school to become a teacher, so I have homework throughout the week just like the girls," said Parsons. "I wrote the essay about starting the day with a warm breakfast."
The contest was launched by Pillsbury Cinnamon Rolls and actress Melissa Joan Hart, with the goal of inspiring families nationwide to recapture Sunday mornings as a time for togetherness, according to a press release issued by Pillsbury.
The public will have a chance to vote for their favorite video and essay at pillsbury.com/sweetsunday between Sept. 23 and Oct. 9. Voters will have a chance to win $25 Visa gift cards and Pillsbury Cinnamon Roll products. The grand prize winner will be announced Oct. 10.
