PARKERSBURG - Gallons of ice cream were dished out Friday at the Parkersburg High School Big Red Football Boosters' annual Ice Cream Social at Stadium Field.

Parkersburg High School Athletic Director Lori Lowers said the social has been a big fundraiser for the school's football program for a number of years.

"It's a great way for the community to come out to show their support and meet the teams," she said. "We have the band, the cheerleaders and the Red Wings performing."

Lowers said the families and parents come out to show their support for the team. Lowers said the parents donate the ice cream and desserts for the social.

"The parents donate everything," she said. "They plan it, set it up, the whole thing."

Those who attended the social were there to support the school.

Marshall and Carolyn Stanley of Vienna were among those who came out to support the PHS football program.

Scott Wallace of Parkersburg said he was there to show support for a relative.

"I'm here because my cousin Blake Schenerlein is a cheerleader this year and the whole family is here to support her," he said.

Carolyn and Marshall Stanley of Vienna said they come out to the social every year.

"We come to support the team and to help them get the extra money I know they well need," she said.

"I concur with that," he said.

"We don't have anyone on the football team," she said.

Bridget Malloy of Parkersburg attended because her son is a freshman player.

"This is my first time," she said. "My son Dylan Malloy is on the freshman team so I'm here for him- and the team."

Lori Tate of Harrisville, a PHS alumna, said the ice cream social is a homecoming of sorts for her.

"This is the second year for the Tate family," she said. "We are here to see my nephew Tyler Riddle, a sophomore on the team. It's a cool thing to this generational event hanging on. I went to PHS and it's great to be here."
