Rodriguez agrees to settle, pay WVU $4 million

POSTED: July 9, 2008

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. (AP) - West Virginia University says ex-football coach Rich Rodriguez has agreed to pay a $4 million buy-out clause after breaking his contract.

That would settle WVU's lawsuit that had been set for trial this fall. It also may end what has been a bitter public feud.

WVU attorney Tom Flaherty says the tentative agreement was reached late Tuesday night.

Flaherty says he's confident the WVU Board of Governors will approve the deal. High-level WVU officials were involved in the talks throughout the night.

Rodriguez quit the Mountaineers in December for the head coaching job at Michigan, only a year after extending his contract with WVU.

He claims WVU broke the contract first by failing to honor certain promises - a charge WVU denies.

He was supposed to pay $1.5 million, 30 days after his resignation, what about that interest, that would have accrued???

Apparently, monumental-ego-loser-boy Rodriguez finally got a piece of good advice for a change. What a moron. You sign a contract that says you have a $4M buyout, and then cry about verbal conversations that render a signed contract null and void? I don't think so.

You know the truly funny thing? It cost I-can't-beat-Pitt-to-get-to-the-National-Championship-Rodriguez more than $4M in legal fees and air transportation to fight this buyout payment. What a doofus. He and Michigan (aka frozen arctic wasteland) deserve each other.
